BORN FREE

For some is one step too far but for others is a piece of art. M.I.A. was never afraid to speak her mind so no one was expecting her to stop doing it now. Or were you?

“BORN FREE”, from her latest album /\/\/\Y/\ (MAYA) was released on the 26th of April on her website and since then it has been on-off from You tube but is now back on without any kind of restriction (if you can’t find it go on Vimeo). For this video the bold artist worked with Romain Gavrasto represent a metaphore of what minorities around the world including the ones of her own country, Sri Lanka, are being exposed to. And in all its fairness the 9 minute film is just as violent as any other american war kind of movie.

MIA has always been know for her political disagreement and slightly childish behaviour towards the critics. And although I appreciate her attempt to “save the world”, at the end of the day this video is PROMOTING a song. But that appears to be the last thing on people’s minds. Is that because the singing was all about shouting and paranoia. I am a huge fan of M.I.A music but i dont think I can quite understand the concept of this. Sadly.
